linux - Blank desktop when using GNOME over VNC in RHEL 6.6 -
i can vnc rhel server, blank desktop kind of wallpaper applied, mouse pointer doesn't respond either left or right mouse click.
my xstartup file in .vnc looks below:
#!/bin/sh [ -r /etc/sysconfig/i18n ] && . /etc/sysconfig/i18n export lang export sysfont vncconfig -iconic & unset session_manager unset dbus_session_bus_address os=`uname -s` if [ $os = 'linux' ]; case "$windowmanager" in *gnome*) if [ -e /etc/suse-release ]; path=$path:/opt/gnome/bin export path fi ;; esac fi if [ -x /etc/x11/xinit/xinitrc ]; exec /etc/x11/xinit/xinitrc fi if [ -f /etc/x11/xinit/xinitrc ]; exec sh /etc/x11/xinit/xinitrc fi [ -r $home/.xresources ] && xrdb $home/.xresources xsetroot -solid grey xterm -geometry 80x24+10+10 -ls -title "$vncdesktop desktop" & gnome-session &
i don't have xinitrc executable in /etc/x11/xinit, have directory xinitrc.d, has 1 file in it: 00-start-message-bus.sh
-----update ----------------
i installed gdm, , @ least have xinitrc file , startx doing "something". using virtualised server platform, no physical monitor attached. startx giving me "command not found" before installed gdm.
now when restart vncserver service, in log files.

------------update 2 ------------------
setting run level 3 5 in /etc/inittab seems have worked!!
------------update 3 ------------------
although things better, having install gnome piecemeal. example had 'yum install nautilus' before browse files, , had 'yum install gnome-apps' trash can , desktop icons.
i had 'yum install gnome-terminal' before access terminal through gnome.
i unable install "gnome desktop environment" think locked down on virtualised corporate platform, have managed install gdm, gnome-session, gnome-terminal, nautilus , gnome-apps.
which port connecting to? default vnc connects port 5900+n n number of xorg display.
if don't explicitly set port client connects next available unoccupied xorg display, i.e. 5001.
if want connect running display either connect explicitly port 5100, or use x11vnc
